Melissa Dickinson, MS, LPC

Professional Counselor, Psychotherapist,

Coach & Creative Person

A few words about me...

I'm a licensed professional counselor in private practice as part of a collaborative called Wellspring Counseling . First I'm going to tell you a little about me and how I work. Then I'd like to tell you a little about this group of professionals I collaborate with and trust.

My professional journey began in NE GA working with adolescents and adults in the public mental health system. From there I was recruited to manage the mental health services at a regional youth detention center. These experiences gave me a broad introduction to counseling.

My colleagues from my public mental health work then invited me to join them in private practice.

One of my first clients in the private sector presented on the gender spectrum (outside of the binary model that has been culturally "normed"). I began seeking education and mentorship (William Stayton, PhD, ThD) in the fields of

human sexuality and gender studies and have evolved a specialization in this very important work. I'm a member of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) and AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists). See articles involving my gender work locally and internationally.

My personal path of learning to live fully with a genetic connective tissue disorder led me to found a large support network in Georgia called the Georgia EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and Hypermobility Network. I am a passionate advocate on the part of this community and make myself available nationwide for supportive coaching and as a therapist locally for the specialized needs of this community and all those who live with chronic pain and illness.

While these two passions (gender/sexuality and chronic illness support) make up a significant portion of my practice, I have stayed true to my roots of working with clients on a variety of mental health and life transition experiences. It is a deep honor to be a part of the journey with those who continuously seek to evolve and grow. Here is an article to learn a little more about me in an interview with Voyage ATL.

I work from a model I affectionately refer to as "goodness of fit", where I support clients in understanding their core design--then assist them to construct a sustainable existence that fits their design well. It is my experience that this strategy can lead to outcomes with reduction in distress and increase in overall health and wellbeing. If that sounds interesting to you, I invite you to reach out and connect.

When we meet, you will likely be introduced to my furry companion Ollie, who often joins me most days for sessions.

Please advise me if you have any allergies or concerns about animals when we are booking our time together and I will make arrangements to take care of your needs.

The collaborative relationship with Wellspring Counseling Coaching and Transitions Center.

Wellspring is a group of coaches and therapists with a similar mission. We work as part of a sex-positive professional culture with extensive training to support the diverse needs of our clients.

We have come together to create a safe space for our clients to grow.

Gender, many different ways of being, sexuality, faith - all are welcome here!
